Character Overview:

Devil Jin is a cooler jin that relies on gimmicks mixed with the hardcore Mishima execution and mindgames. As of now he is struggling due to recent nerfs so he should be easy to counter. However, a good Devil Jin player will make your life difficult.

Counter Strategy:

Devil Jin players prefer the mid to long range due to shackles' range, electrics, and the range of other stances. But suffer from a bad jab, less-than-optimal f f 2, bad df 1 and more. So while being patient and aware, you need to stay in Devil Jin's face, and keep him honest with jabs and punish his stances properly.

Key Moves To Punish:

MorningCrowRight punch + Left kick:

Punish: Crouch and LaunchCounterPlay: This is an unbreakable throw performed when Devil Jin is in heat, used as a mixup to the other Morning Crow (MC) Moves.

BackForwardRight punchLeft punch-IntoExtensions:

Punish: SWR after second hit (1) and LaunchCounterPlay: Used as a substitute poke that can lead into high damage, especially near the wall.

While standingLeft punchLeft punch:

Punish: Crouch second hit (shackles) and launchCounterPlay: This is an effective while standing move for Devil Jin, allowing him to go into Morning Crow (MC) mixups easily. So crouch the shackles whether on hit (oH) or on block (oB) to avoid the mixup and get an easy launch.

While standingLeft punchRight punch:

Punish: i10 punishCounterPlay: This is a move used as a mixup with WS 1 1, the second hit (2) being a mid. To counter, start your match by ducking the second hit regardless if it was a 1 or a 2. Then, after you get a feel of what the Devil Jin is doing, you can either crouch and launch, or i10 punish.

FLYstanceandeverymoveoutofit:

Punish: SSL and LaunchCounterPlay: This is a very confusing stance if you don't know how to deal with it. But you simply SSL and punish the whiffed move.

Devil Jin's Panic Moves

Overview:

Due to the stances, Devil Jin was blessed to have many panic buttons. But they all have slow recovery frames... Good news for us.

UpRight kick:

Punish: Launch PunishableCounterPlay: Devil Jin's u 4 move has a slow recovery, making it launch punishable if you react quickly.

BackLeft kick:

Punish: Launch PunishableCounterPlay: Devil Jin's b 3 move is another panic button that can be easily punished with a launch due to its slow recovery.

DownLeft kick + Right kick:

Punish: Launch PunishableCounterPlay: The d 3+4 move also has a slow recovery, providing an opportunity for a launch punish.

Up-forwardLeft kick + Right kick:

Punish: Launch PunishableCounterPlay: Devil Jin's uf 3+4 move is slow to recover, making it susceptible to launch punishment.

SidestepRight punch:

Punish: Launch PunishableCounterPlay: SS 2 is another slow-recovery move from Devil Jin that can be punished with a launch.

Morning Crow

Overview:

Morning Crow is a stance unique to Devil Jin, that opens up the door to some serious mindgames, as it has homing options, unbreakable grabs, and frame traps. Once you learn how to deal with Morning Crow, Devil Jin becomes much less threatening.

(MC)Right punch + Left kick:

Punish: Crouch and LaunchCounterPlay: Unbreakable grab while Devil Jin is in heat, you can notice it by the special effects Devil Jin has when approaching. Crouch for an easy launch.

(MC)Right punchRight punch:

Punish: WS i14 punisher (after the second 2)CounterPlay: This is the homing option out of MC. It puts you in a crouched state, so use a i14 punisher (usually a launcher) or faster to not let Devil Jin go unpunished.

Therestof(MC)Moves:

Punish: SWL and LaunchCounterPlay: The rest of Morning Crow moves are susceptible to Side Walking Left. The timing may be tricky but it should be easy. However, if you get hit by MC 1, you need to RESPECT IT, because it can be used as a frame trap.
